Jr Boon Four
(Smokey)
Smokey is a 2010 gelding rode by Jake Travis. He is out of Lacewoods Lacy Jo by Smooth Blue Boon. When he was younger, Smokey sired a few colts, but it was decided he would be a better gelding on our farm. Smokey has incredible cow sense, but also a very sound mind. Jake can run a smoking pattern on him one minute, and the next, his younger brother with Down Syndrome will hop on and take him for a slow, clean run through the same pattern. Smokey is the perfect example of the kinds of horses we raise here at Travis Quarter Horses.
Reference Gelding - beaus lucky skipper
(skipper)
Skipper was a 1999 gelding out of Miss Van Lucky by One Impressive Beau, previously rode by Luke Travis. Before Bruce bought Skipper, he was a phenomenal shooting horse that won Neal Spoden multiple world titles, including one for Bruce, and this horse only has one eye! When Luke needed a solid shooting horse, Bruce was quick to give up Skipper, and the rest is history. Luke and Skipper were a great team, and even though Luke has moved on to a younger horse & Skipper recently passed, this one-of-a-kind horse was a great asset to riders needing a little more experience. He was reliable and an incredible asset to our family.
TF Claytons Romeo
(Boone)
Boone is a 2018 gelding out of Sah Zans Lady Chick by Claytons Romeo JR, rode by Tristan Travis. Boone has a great mind and has been very easy for Tristan Travis to break. Even as a young gelding, Boone is relatively consistent every time Tristan jumps on him. Whether it's been 2 days or 2 weeks since he's been rode, Boone doesn't put up much of a fight. He has taken to cattle very well & is consistently learning in the cowboy mounted shooting circuit.
JR hunky Sixteen
(hunky)
Lane Travis is the primary rider for this 2011 gelding, who is out of Claytons Can Can by Fairefax Jay. When Lane's dad, Adam, started riding Hunky, he was impressed by his willing-to-please attitude, but also by his work ethic and speed. He thought Lane and Hunky would be a good pair, and boy was he right! Hunky is a powerful gelding that puts forth 100% effort at all times. He is perhaps the fastest horse on our farm, but is willing to slow down when needed. We are excited to watch Lane and Hunky grow up and can't wait to see their future together.
king blue cash
(cash)
Cash is a 2017 gelding out of Easter Blue Sue by Flash One, with 19% Dash for Cash and 17% King. He is rode by Luke Travis (who must have a thing for one-eyed-horses!). We kept this horse back as a stallion for a few years and in those years, he sired a few colts that we are excited to watch grow. He is now a gelding, and is making a wicked-fast shooting horse for Luke. Even though he's blind in one eye Cash does not spook at the shots, and can easily maneuver through any pattern, which is a great combination for our sport. Luke and Cash are making a great team, and we can't wait to watch them grow together.
TF Driftin man
(Rowdy)
Rowdy is a 2015 gelding rode by Kristi Travis. He is out of Senecas Smarty Mandy by CJ Driftin Hancock. This powerhouse gelding may be the calmest young gelding on our farm. Whether it's working cattle or running fast patterns, this horse can do it all. Adam, Kristi's Dad, started this horse a few years ago and actually won a saddle as the overall shooter at the Nebraska State Fair in 2019. He was impressed at how cooperative, calm, and fast he was, and when Kristi needed a horse, Adam knew exactly which one he wanted to give her. This young pair is going to be fun to watch as they grow, and we can't wait to see where they end up.
jr chunky seventeen
(Jack)
Jack is a 2018 gelding out of JR Joe Two by JR Fairfax Oakwood, rode by Connor Travis. This horse is very calm with a great mind. When Connor was breaking this horse in the summer of 2020, Connor was able to rub a large coat all over Jack without him even flinching. He is going to be a great cattle horse paired with speed for shooting and a sound mind. Connor & Jack have already been laying down 1D times during the 2022 mounted shooting season, even landing second overall at the Travis Auto & Truck shoot in May of 2022.
Tf chelseas bubba
(king)
King is a 2014 gelding out of Bubbas Sister by JR Boon Four, rode by Curt Travis. King is another example of the quality of horses we look for here at Travis Quarter Horses. He will respond to an adult, but will also take care of a young rider. When Curt isn't using King for cattle work, he can be found training for barrels with Chelsea or trail riding with one of Curt's daughters - Chanelle, Stella, Ivy, and Oakley. He is a patient horse that is willing to please, making him a great asset to our family.
Perks Tiny watch
(MilO)
Milo is a 2009 gelding out of Tiny Bang Boom by Flash One. This horse has many riders, but his most recent primary rider was Mallory Lents. With speed from Flash One, this gelding is one of the fastest animals on our farm. Mallory has won multiple Cowboy Mounted Shooting class wins with this horse, and her daughter, Veronica, has even seen success in the barrel racing circuits with him. When not smoking through patterns, this versatile gelding can be found working cattle in the pasture.
ruger
Ruger is a 2017 grade gelding out of our only grademare, Lilly, and Flash One. He is rode by Clint Travis. Ruger is turning into a great ranch horse. He will get after any cow that needs it - just look at him in the above picture! He is responsive to whoever rides him. Clint started shooting off of him a few years ago, and together, they won the title of 2021 Travis Quarter Horses Futurity Champion. He is an great all-around horse and we can't wait to watch him grow!
tf driftin mesquite
(Rusty)
Rusty is a 2018 gelding out of TF Senecas Mesquite by CJ Driftin Hancock, rode by Adam Travis. Adam has worked this horse with cattle and around our mounted shooting events. Just like CJ Driftin Hancock, this gelding has been easy to break and is relatively calm. He works well with cattle and doesn't fuss much with the sound of gunshots, was a great asset for the 2022 Travis Quarter Horse Futurity contest. As seen in the photo above, Adam won the 2022 Futurity contest thanks to this incredible horse! Rusty is going to make Adam a great horse, unless one of his kids steals him!
Reference gelding - Cowboy
Cowboy was a 1997 gelding, most recently rode by Kristi Travis. He passed in late 2022. Cowboy was quite the horse. Not only did he provide the speed & agility for Adam Travis to move through the Cowboy Mounted Shooting classes crazy fast, he also gave Adam's daughter, Kristi, many mounted shooting wins and barrel racing buckles. He was a horse that just loved to run. Even in 2022, a few years after Kristi had retired him, she pulled him out of the pasture in a pinch when her current horse was injured. The pair acted like they never missed a beat. Cowboy was the horse that gave Kristi the confidence she needed to be come a phenomenal rider and shooter. He was one of a kind, and we were lucky to have him.
JR driftwood short
(Oakie)
Oakie is a 2008 gelding out of Bubas Hancock Oakie by Jr Goodwood. Tristan Travis started riding this patient gelding when Oakie was 4, and when he ran into navicular issues when he was 8, Oakie was given to the younger cousins, such as Veronica Lents. With a little love & TLC, Oakie is back on the roster as a reliable horse that will take care of anyone who jumps on his back. This team competed in their first shoot together at the 2023 Iowa State Fair, and walked away with the title of Ladies Level 1 Champion. Oakie is an incredible horse, and we are lucky to have him on our ranch.
Ole man sugar bars
(Quigley)
Quigley is a 2005 gelding out of Vanny Sugar by Mi Spirit Man. This powerhouse of a horse was ridden by Jamie Travis for many years, in which he became a level 5 shooter, thanks to this horse. When Clint's daughter and Jamie's niece, Grace Travis, needed a horse, Jamie was eager to share his horse with her. Since then, Grace and Quigley have become quite a team. She can do just about anything on this horse, including cattle work, barrel racing, and mounted shooting. Quigley is strong, fast, and intelligent, which is the combination we strive for here at Travis Quarter Horses.
tf mesquite
(Buck)
Buck is a 2012 gelding out of JR Driftwood Ima and by Mesquitewood 2302, rode by Curt Travis. Buck is a calm, patient horse with a great mind. Curt often lets his daughters, Chanelle & Stella, ride Buck, and they get along very well. Curt uses this horse to work cattle on the family farm, his wife, Chelsea, is starting to barrel race with him, and Dave has started shooting off of him as well. We love horses like Buck that will respond to an adult, but also take care of an up-and-coming cowgirl.
cz zebra poco step
(Charlie)
Charlie is a 1999 gelding out of Dingo Steping Lady by Zebra Step. Tyler Travis, Adam's youngest son, was his most recent rider. Before Tyler started riding him, Charlie was a great roping horse for his former owner. Charlie is a strong, well-mannered horse that would get out and move for Tyler when he asked. Tyler loved riding Charlie, because he knew this horse will do exactly what he asks. In 2022, Tyler needed a bit faster horse, and decided to dedicate Charlie to Rocking T Riding Lessons for the foreseeable future. Tyler's oldest sister, Josie, has used Charlie for many horse lessons with Riding T Riding Lessons, proving that this horse can be rode by anyone.
