Betty is a 2017 mare out of Bettys Gypsy Queen by Claytons Blue Train. She is, without a doubt, the most special mare on our farm. She is named after Bruce's mother Betty (shown above), as she is the last colt by Betty & Bruce Sr.'s mare. It's not uncommon for Bruce to give his horse to a grandkid who needs one, but this mare is one that Bruce plans to keep for himself. She is built like a tank and has a very bright future ahead of her. Betty will be Bruce's shooting horse for the 2021 season, and with no plans to give her up, he entered her into the 2021 Travis Quarter Horses Futurity contest. Despite how well she ran, she did not win the contest, but has won Bruce a buckle or two in her first year shooting.
TF boons driftwood (Gypsy)
Gypsy is a 2013 mare rode by Tristan Travis. She is out of JR Driftwood Ima by JR Boon Four. Gypsy is one of the few horses that came from Smoky. Gypsy is a hard-working mare with a solid build and incredible athletic ability. When the guys need a roping horse, Gypsy is often one of the first picks. Her strength and work ethic are what makes her one of the most valuable horses on our ranch.
tf mandys boon bar (lacey)
Lacey is a 2013 mare out of Senecas Smarty Mandy and also by JR Boon Four (Smoky), making her and Gypsy half-sisters. Her rider, Maddie (Travis) Gillam, loves this horse's energy and cow-sense. Lacey is a fast-moving mare that loves a good task. When working cattle, Lacey will nudge young calves along with a gentle nip, but will also turn on a dime to cut off a uncooperative cow. This combination of speed and intelligence is very common of horses raised on our ranch.
tf claytons mesquite (crystal)
Crystal is a 2016 mare previously rode by Connor Travis, and currently rode by Maddie (Travis) Gillam's husband - Gavin Gillam. She is out of TF Senecas Mesquite by Claytons Blue Train. In 2020, Connor and Crystal won the Travis Quarter Horses Futurity contest. This contest is between 4-year-old horses raised or bred by Travis Quarter Horses. Crystal took to shooting relatively easily. Connor recently started riding a younger horse and didn't have much time to ride Crystal. Thankfully, Gavin Gillam needed a horse to ride and clicked instantly with this young mare. Crystal also is a stout mare that shines when working cattle. Like Gypsy, she is a first-pick when it comes to roping difficult cows. This horse is incredible already, but we are excited to see what she accomplishes in her future.
Quick Sassy Cash (Sassy)
Sassy is a 2006 mare out of Cash Bars of Gold by Quick Jac Sonoita, whose personality matches her name perfectly. She is, indeed, a sassy mare, but her attitude is no match for her primary rider, Tyler Travis. Tyler was a very timid rider to begin with, but has really increased his confidence in the past couple years and is a very good rider with a very good horse. Tyler's dad - Adam - and his sister - Josie - have both ridden Sassy and have been very successful in mounted shooting and barrel racing. Tyler recently started shooting off of her and has done really well in his first few years with real guns. While she can be a little sassy at times, this horse is a very valuable mare on our farm that we are truly lucky to have.
tf dash for hazer (Jill)
Jill is a 2018 mare out of Hazers Driftin Katy and by Flash One, rode by Dave Travis. Because she's by Flash One, this mare is fast. Dave has worked this horse with cattle on his farm, and started shooting off of her when she was 4-years-old. He entered the 2022 Travis Quarter Horses Futurity and impressed all of us! We're sure this team will be a force to be reckoned with, and we can't wait to watch this young horse grow!
tf sandy valentine (Sandy)
Sandy is a 2015 mare most recently ridden by Veronica Lents. She is out of Claytons Can Can by CJ Driftin Hancock. When Veronica's mom, Mallory, started this horse out, she knew Sandy would be something special. Mallory trusted Sandy enough to let her daughter ride her once, and the rest is history. Veronica has since passed this horse down to younger siblings and cousins. In her time riding her, Sandy gave Veronica the confidence she needed in her first year of shooting with real guns. Sandy has one of the best minds out of all the young mares on our farm. She aims to please, striving to do whatever her rider asks of her.
tf janies valentine (sugar)
Sugar is a 2016 mare rode by Josie (Travis) Bolton. She is out of Jackpots Janie by He Is All Valentine. Josie has put in countless hours on this horse during the riding lessons she offers in the summer, and it shows! Whether it's mounted shooting, horse lessons, or working cattle, Josie and Sugar are the definition of "the perfect team." Sugar is athletic and intelligent, making her one of the best young mares on our ranch.
dAIsy
Daisy is a 2016 mare out of a grademare (Dutchess) and by CJ Driftin Hancock. She is rode by Kaden Bolton (Josie Bolton's husband), and we cannot express how great of a job Kaden has done breaking this horse. Daisy was relatively easy to break, and is as fast as a rocket. Kaden put in countless hours to make her the horse she is today. Just last year, he started shooting off of her, and she has won him a few competitions in that short time. We cannot wait to watch Kaden and Daisy in the coming years.
jr lucky two (pepper)
Pepper is, perhaps, one of the most patient mares on our farm. She is out of JR Driftwood Paula by Lucky Goldwood. This 2011 mare was most recently ridden by Ally Lents. Jamie pulled this mare out of the brood mare bunch when she was 8, and had a shooting friend ride her for 30 days. After finding how handy and patient she was once he got her back, Jamie gave Pepper to his sister, Mallory, for her kids to ride. Pepper can sometimes be a handful, but Ally shows her who's boss and really rides her well. We pride ourselves in horses like these that are well-rounded and suitable for any age.
Polly
Clint Travis raised this 2015 mare, Polly. She is out of our only grade mare (Lilly) by CJ Driftin Hancock. Clint quickly learned how handy Polly was working cattle and in cowboy mounted shooting. But when his nephew - Gavin Bolton - needed a horse, Clint was quick to give up his young horse. Polly turned out to be just what Gavin needed. This mare turned into a perfect partner for Gavin. Whether he's competing at the county fair or in cowboy mounted shooting, this mare's long smooth stride always puts up a fast time.
perks powderface (dally)
This firecracker is a 2008 mare named Dally. She is out of Leos Powderface by Flash One. Clint Travis rides her, and typically smokes his competition in Cowboy Mounted Shooting events. Dally is an energetic, extremely fast horse. She not only speeds past her competition, but can flip the switch and work with cattle when needed. Clint raised Dally and has put in the work to make her an excellent, well-rounded horse. She is currently in the broodmare pasture, producing excellent projects for anyone willing to put in the work. Head over to the "For Sale" page to check out her 2023 colt!
dreamin
Dreamin' is a 2016 mare rode by Hope Henderson, a cousin to the Travis'. Dreamin' is the perfect combination of speed and sound mind. Hope's mom - Mandy - started this mare, and when she let Hope hop on to try her, Hope & Dreamin' fell in love. This duo works together so well - both in the arena and in the pasture. Like many other horses raised on our farm, this mare is well-rounded and good-mannered. She can do it all!
tigress skip (honey)
Honey is a 2000 mare out of Tigressaflame by JF Skips Sandman - making her and Peaches full sisters. Honey has had many riders, but her current rider is Travis Lents. Travis loves to ride Honey fast. She is just enough horse for him to build his confidence while also putting his mom's nerves at ease. Travis and Honey are also a great pair when moving cattle. The pair will be the first ones to take off at lope to find each and every cow in the pasture. Even though Travis might be one of the younger cousins, Honey helps him keep up with the older ones. This mare is very special to us and we are so lucky to have her on our ranch.
reference mare - stardust aflame (peaches)
Peaches is a 1998 mare who Connor Travis rode for years. She is out of Tigressaflame by JF Skips Sandman. When neighbor and extraordinary horse trainer, Jack Quee, even slightly mentioned selling Peaches and her full sister, Honey, Clint and Jamie knew they couldn't pass it up. Peaches and Connor are a team we'll remember forever. Connor started riding Peaches when he started shooting, and has won many competitions, including winning the title of World Champion Eliminator in 2016. In 2021, Maddie Gillam's now husband - Gavin - started showing interest in shooting. Even though she had been retired for a year, Connor was quick to offer Peaches for him to get started on. They saw great success and Peaches gave Gavin the confidence he needed to become a great shooter. She has since been retired to the pasture (again). Peaches is a solid, sassy mare that, even at 24-years-old, loves to run. She is truly a one-of-a-kind mare that we are so blessed to have.
rey black buck (trix)
Trix is an 2002 mare out of Rosalie Globar by Rey Jack Buck rode by Kenny Lents. Trix is a patient, cooperative mare that truly works really well with Kenny. Kenny's wish is Trix's command. This sweet mare is reliable enough to put any kid on her, but will also deliver to any adult who asks to go a bit faster. Trix is another horse that is so valuable on our farm.
