Honoring The Horses That Built Us
This page is a tribute to the ones who carried our dreams, taught our kids, earned the wins, and stood with us through the years. These aren’t just horses, they’re part of our story, and part of our legacy.
At Travis Quarter Horses, we’re not just raising horses. We’re building something that lasts. These Hall of Famers remind us it’s about more than sales. It’s about deep knowledge, lifelong care, and the kind of bond that can’t be bought. We’ve lived it, loved it, and we’re still doing it.
OUR LEGENDS
Cowboy
Cowboy was a 1997 gelding, most recently rode by Kristi Travis. He passed in late 2022. Cowboy was quite the horse. Not only did he provide the speed & agility for Adam Travis to move through the Cowboy Mounted Shooting classes crazy fast, he also gave Adam's daughter, Kristi, many mounted shooting wins and barrel racing buckles. He was a horse that just loved to run. Even in 2022, a few years after Kristi had retired him, she pulled him out of the pasture in a pinch when her current horse was injured. The pair acted like they never missed a beat. Cowboy was the horse that gave Kristi the confidence she needed to be come a phenomenal rider and shooter. He was one of a kind, and we were lucky to have him.

Peaches
Peaches is a 1998 mare who Connor Travis rode for years. She is out of Tigressaflame by JF Skips Sandman. When neighbor and extraordinary horse trainer, Jack Quee, even slightly mentioned selling Peaches and her full sister, Honey, Clint and Jamie knew they couldn't pass it up. Peaches and Connor are a team we'll remember forever. Connor started riding Peaches when he started shooting, and has won many competitions, including winning the title of World Champion Eliminator in 2016. In 2021, Maddie Gillam's now husband - Gavin - started showing interest in shooting. Even though she had been retired for a year, Connor was quick to offer Peaches for him to get started on. They saw great success and Peaches gave Gavin the confidence he needed to become a great shooter. She has since been retired to the pasture (again). Peaches is a solid, sassy mare that, even at 24-years-old, loves to run. She is truly a one-of-a-kind mare that we are so blessed to have.

Honey
Honey was a 2000 mare out of Tigressaflame by JF Skips Sandman - making her and Peaches full sisters. Honey has had many riders, but her current rider was Travis Lents. Travis loves to ride Honey fast. She is just enough horse for him to build his confidence while also putting his mom's nerves at ease. Travis and Honey were a great pair when moving cattle. The pair will be the first ones to take off at lope to find each and every cow in the pasture. Even though Travis might be one of the younger cousins, Honey helps him keep up with the older ones. This mare was very special to us and we are so lucky to have her on our ranch.

Skipper
Skipper was a 1999 gelding out of Miss Van Lucky by One Impressive Beau, previously rode by Luke Travis. Before Bruce bought Skipper, he was a phenomenal shooting horse that won Neal Spoden multiple world titles, including one for Bruce, and this horse only has one eye! When Luke needed a solid shooting horse, Bruce was quick to give up Skipper, and the rest is history. Luke and Skipper were a great team, and even though Luke has moved on to a younger horse & Skipper recently passed, this one-of-a-kind horse was a great asset to riders needing a little more experience. He was reliable and an incredible asset to our family.
